(Grass To Glass System)
We have termed our milking process “Grass to Glass System”. This is because the consumer is the first person to come in contact with the milk.
The cows are milked twice a day. The milking is done using vacuum equipment that transfers the milk directly into refrigerated holding tanks. The holding tanks cool and maintain the milk at 4 Degrees Celsius. This preserves freshness and aroma and stunts the growth of naturally occurring bacteria. The milk is then processed (pasteurized and homogenized) and packaged into our food grade pouches and transported via our refrigerated trucks.
Pasteurization is a process that involves heating milk at a certain temperature for a certain amount of time in order to destroy any harmful bacteria or germs. Unlike our competitors, our milk is never UHT (Ultra High Temperature) treated. We use minimum temperatures during the pasteurization process in order to preserve “farm fresh” taste and nutritional value. Through our process we are able to destroy any harmful bacteria in the milk without compromising on its taste or integrity.
Homogenization refers to a type of milk that is treated to prevent the cream from separating away from the milk. This process evens the consistency of the milk by reducing all the particles of the milk to the same size. It prevents the cream from rising to the top of the milk and ensures a uniform fat content throughout the entire product. The process of homogenization creates a creamier feel and taste as the fat content is consistent throughout every glass. The consistent fat content also prevents unpleasant odors from forming. It is also considered easier to digest compared to milk that is not homogenized.
Why the Pouch and Jug?
Our pouches are made out of high quality food grade plastic. This keeps the milk fresh and preserves the farm fresh taste. The jug is very convenient to handle as the pouch fits in perfectly inside it. The pouches are much easier to store compared to large plastic bottles of milk. They are more economical which benefits the end user. They are environmentally friendly because less plastic is used to produce them compared to plastic bottles.
